The Tavern is a place where one sheds human attributes and acquires the divine. It is the station of unity—where everything is perceived as One. Here, traditional norms and natural habits, self-righteousness and self-display, are transformed into loving-kindness.
Here also the spiritual guide resides—having shed his human quality, his heart reflecting only the divine attributes. He passes around the wine of friendship to the seekers, intoxicating them with the revelation of Divine Oneness, freeing them from the bondage of self.
And Hafez says:
Come — let us seek at the door of the tavern deliverance from human qualities.
Let us kneel at the threshold of the Friend and seek our aspiration.

بر در دوست نشینیم و مرادی طلبیم
