The Face
(rouy | روی)
The Face signifies the manifestation of Divine Beauty—a beauty that transcends all worldly beauties. It is revealed in the heart of the spiritual seeker, once the heart has been polished enough to reflect such beauty.
The lover first loses all awareness of self. Beholding the countless aspects of the Beloved's beauty, the lover is consumed by love. Gradually, the lover sees that the Beloved is present in all beings, animate and inanimate.
Wherever his gaze falls, the lover sees only the Face of the Beloved. And at last, through the revelation of the Beloved's Face, the lover becomes one with the Beloved.
And Hafez says:
Show forth Thy Face, O Beloved,
And erase this figure of self from memory;
Tell the winds to scatter
The ashes of Thy lovers.
روی بنمای و وجود خودم از یاد ببر
خرمن سوختگان را همه گو باد ببر
